![]() ![]() We both ordered All You Can Eat and had to deal with the usual poor service: visibly angry wait staff, wait staff that magically leaves out half the things you order randomly, food coming out at weird random times. My last visit to Tokyo sushi involved me being part of a small party of two. The wait staff seems to be angry that you exist and only get more angry the more they have to deal with you. Then the quality of the sushi itself began to suffer as well. Then All You Can Eat started… The quality of the non-sushi food on the menu started the suffer as it was rushed out for those ordering off the slips. It was reasonably priced sushi of reasonable quality with service that is always substandard. I ate at Tokyo for years before they started trying to compete with Sushi Palace in Hamden and started their All You Can Eat menu. The Southington area of Connecticut seems to be getting hit by a rash of formerly great Japanese restaurants slowly degrading due to going all you can eat. We had to ask for our water to be refilled and every time we asked to order something, it was like it was a burden. I don’t think we saw them smile one time. The two waitresses that we interacted with did not even try to be welcoming or friendly. Part of the reason stars were docked was because it was definitely not a friendly environment. #Tokyo sushio southington free#Had my friends not been there before, I would never have stopped on my own free will in passing. The outside of the restaurant however is really run down. The décor was pretty decent & it seemed clean. I did really enjoy the chocolate fried ice cream. The rest of the food that I tried was pretty basic, the hibachi rice was a bit bland for me and the spring rolls were soggy on the bottom and were also pretty bland. 95, which is excellent considering that just two of the «fancy» rolls I ordered would cost that amount anywhere else. Their «all you can eat» menu had a really good variety and the sushi itself was good, thankfully. We drove 30 minutes to get to the restaurant and I don’t feel it was necessarily worth the commute. #Tokyo sushio southington full#If you come here with the expectation of stuffing yourself full of deliciousness at a fraction of the price you would pay ordering the same rolls at a regular sushi restaurant, you will be very pleased. I flagged a server when they were bussing a table, was acknowledged, and my request for more water was taken care of pretty quickly… better service than I’ve gotten in some more reputable places. They weren’t as on top of the water refills, but it’s not like any of us are paying for a 5 star dining experience. In my experience the staff was pretty on top of card collection and replacement, and got our food out in a timely manner. Also loved that they have both fried banana and ice cream on the dessert portion of the menu… no better way to end a night of sushi than with a nice little combo of hot banana and chocolate ice cream in my opinion! Frankly, I didn’t find the service to be as bad as some people have been stating. Everything we ordered was fresh and absolutely delicious. Makes we wish we had driven down the street to the Golden Arches.When it comes to both quality and selection this is my favorite all-you-can-eat sushi venue thus far. Three mediocre lunches priced out at $35. Our third guest ordered a salmon teriaki and did not enjoy it. My colleague ordered a soba (soup and noodle) dish and enjoyed it. I ordered a pork katsu bento box, but the box only had four compartments so the variety of flavors was a bit spartan. ![]() The food, when it came, wasn't bad but it was below the standard of most of the Japanese restaurants I have visited. They slammed some menus in front of us, asked us if we were ready to order, and disappeared when we wanted to take some time to read about our choices. The staff was huddled in a corner and were annoyed with us when we interrupted their (obviously endless) rest break. There are perhaps 15 tables or so all cubicles lined up around the perimeter and one row down the middle. The room was dark all the daylight was blocked by wood or paint on the windows. It's always a bad sign when you walk into a restaurant at lunchtime and the place is empty. Unhappily, I should have stayed in the car. I was truly tickled to get a chance to pop through the door. Finding a sushi restaurant in the restaurant wasteland of Southington was like finding an oasis in the desert. I love discovering a new restaurant, especially any Asia food. ![]()
